Some Elf Bits

Sunday 11 November 2012

Sticking with the hauling theme i ordered just a couple bits from elf and thought i'd give them there own post. Now after umming and arring for the past god knows how long deciding whether or not to buy the real techniques brushes (I THINK I SHOULD HAVE! INDECISIVENESS IS TO BLAME) i ordered some elf ones instead, these are my first impression after using them for a around a month or so.....

After buying the one from the £1.50 range a while back i decided to get this one too. On trying this out i can't fault it does do a good job with the application of blush/bronzer (just what you need) and is so worth the £3.75 i payed, also on the plus side it's soooooo soft and so much better the the cheaper brush.

Reading the many reviews on this brush the skeptic inside me wanted to try so i did. Surprisingly i am surprised (i'm easily pleased sort of) but i really really like this brush used in conjunction with my elf powder brush. I wouldn't say it will be long lasting if you use it every single day as the bristles seem to invert into the middle of the brush (but that just might be me and my uncarefulness.....) other than that though it's a must have to try before investing in a more higher priced one i think. I have to say too i definatly perfer this style of brush rather than my no7 or elf flat foundation brushes.

This is my 'buffing brush' which works well to add the finishing touches to my foundation (i can't compare it to anything because, well i don't have anything flat edged like this) it also works well for its original purpose if appliying compact or mineral powder just like any other brush but i have found that you can press product into the skin and buff of the excess a lot easier (a technique i learnt from the gossmakeupartist!) as it's quite dense and structured better than just a regular fly away bristled brush.

This was completely one of those impluse buys but i'm so glad it was! It's so useful in helping to distribute product more evenly in my eyebrows and helps separate my lashes taking away any clumps of mascara. I just wish i'd of bought two one for each purpose because cleaning it is a pain!

Next up a life saving essential there's not much i can say other than they do there job pretty well without leaving any residue on the skin which is what i like best about them making them a reacurring purchase of mine.
This is the most disappointing of the lot it just didn't live up to my exceptions, when i first got it i swatched the product and nothing... nothing was on my finger it just didn't show up but after rubbing it it did eventually show up! The product it's self though has a lovely soft velvet'y texture, it's just not got much pigmentation which i defiantly think you can find in products even cheaper than this one. Although it was a let down the bright side is i'm super pale so it shows up ever so slightly but i don't think i'd repurchase anymore of them.

What's your favourite ELF product and/or your biggest let down?

Duo Boots Competition

Duo Boots Competition

Duo Boots Competition by wonderrcolourbehind

It's the last day of a generous competition DuoBoots are holding to win a pair of shoes of  your choice amazing! Details here!
Before this competition i'd never heard of the brand duo boots but my oh my they sell some lovely quality shoes slightly out of my price range but a girl can dream right? ha.

They were four particular pairs that took my fancy, (Woodbury, Gable, Dubois the ones i choose! and Avron), so i found it rather difficult to choose just ONE pair to make an outfit with but i succeeded as you can see from my entry above.

I didn't have a certain theme in mind so i made an outfit for an everyday casual, comfy, relaxing look which i think complements the boots pretty well especially with the autumn'y colours, the accents of studs and a military style coat. Overall i have to say i'm in love with this outfit but sadly my bank account doesn't agree. :(

P.s. I couldn't decide between leggings or skinny jeans so went with both!

Hope you like my entry !

What's your favourite style of footwear for autumn/winter?

NOTD #1

Monday 15 October 2012

As a nail polish addict i love to paint my nails but i don't get to do it that often due to work so i always jump at the chance when i'm off to put some colour and sparkle onto my hands (because who doesn't love a a bit of sparkle?)
These are the the polishes i used:

Barry M Diamond Glitter
Barry M All in One Basecoat, Topcoat and Nail Hardener
No7 Stay Perfect Quick Dry Top Coat
Models Own Purple Passion
Models Own Ibiza Mix
So on to the nails, i choose purple just cause i loveeeeee purple, it was the first time trying out the models own polishes too and i have to say why have i not bought any of these before!? The colour is opaque in just two coats with it only literally taking a few minutes for it dry, amazing! I decided to go with both glitter polishes as i was just trying the Ibiza mix out so i only used it on one nail. To top it all off i used my favourite topcoat by No7 a discovery made all from those oh so wonderful no7 boots vouchers i don't no what i'd do without it.

Just a little fact to finish with, it has taken me just over 2 years to be able to paint my nails 'properly' without painting the whole of my fingers and slapping so much on my nails they just end up in a smudged sloppy mess.
Crazy i know..

Do you love or hate glitter polish?

Just A Collective Haul

Sunday 23 September 2012

So over the past 2 weeks i've bought a few bits and a few more, preparing for the lovely cold weather after our non-existent summer.......

I'm loving oversized jumpers at the moment and i'm defiantly sure there will be more being purchased soon (you can never have to many jumpers!) The first is from Dorothy Perkins it was a must after seeing it in store styled with a collar popping out the top, not only that the colours just put a smile on my face (weird i know) also on the back it has buttons like the popper kind which spruces it up a little, it retails for £25.00 (so not worth!) However i got it for £15.00 (: a slight bargain if a do say so myself. (it's on sale for £17.00 now though link!)
Next up a boxy see-through pale pink jumper from New Look simple but very me and for £14.99 minus a few pounds with student discount why not.
The blue one is from good old Primark again it's slightly see-through due to the knitted/crochet style but i wont be bearing my all to the world so i bought a few basic coloured strap tops from Primark to not only cover up but to add some colour to an otherwise boring outfit.

Back to New Look ooo i'm in love with this jumper it's nothing special but i like.. a lot ha, it's bat winged with little silhouettes of birds scattered all around it was £22.99 (minus a few pounds for student discount).
Just a basic green great fitting t-shirt which was £6.99 .
I like america and that's partly why i bought it, not just that though i saw it styled with a blazer which looked super cute but.... i don't own a blazer (LOL) it was though only £7.99.

Essential pair of lounge around the house PJ bottoms for £5,
An uneeded, just had to have new purse with raised heart and studded detail for £4,

These were on my wishlist the other week and i guess there no longer wished for but do they live up to my expectations keep a look out for my thoughts/review.
I ordered online from Origins (exellent Delivery service btw) and i got to choose 3 Free Deluxe Samples!
Checks and Balances Frothy Face wash (it smells just like a Mojito!)
GinZing Eye Cream
VitaZing Moisturizer
Another plus the package smelt delicious!

Montagne Jeunesse Face mask (how do you even say that?) never tried them before so i'm hoping its good for 89p.
Rose Water this is supposed to help with oily skin/ acne scars so the person in Holland and Barrett said so i will be using this as a toner or you can put it in cakes..........

The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser i hope this works its £7.50 but with the many sales online at the moment i got it for around 3-4 pounds. I also got the facial buffer a little cheaper too.
I long for the Models own Ibiza Mix but it's never stocked in my boots grrrrrr so i picked up the "kind of equivalent" that would be Techinc's Carnival for 99p.

Speaking of Models Own Like there Facebook Page so we can all get 50% off most of there website if they get 100,00 likes! (:

Hope you like my recent buys,

Sorry for some of the shoddy photos.........

Whats your favourite recent buy/bargain?

17 BB Blemish Balm My Thoughts/Review

Thursday 6 September 2012

So after dismissing this product for a little while there came a bad day which made me want to spend some money and this is something i purchased the 17 Blemish Balm. A miracle in a bottle? It should be from what it claims to do and i guess it's half way there, retailing at £6.99 i got it for £5.99 while it was still on  promotional offer but onto the product.

What it claims to do....

'All in one magic makeup -skincare, evens out skin tone, covers imperfections, oil control has an SPF of 25. Make up meets skincare the ultimate 'no make-up make-up, weightless creamy formula blends seemingly for a flawless finish. Improves skin condition in just four weeks!'

I'm a fan of the black and yellow packaging as it's vibrant eye catching, clear to understand and straight to the point...

Sleek yet simple, a major plus for me is that it's in a squeezey tube so you can use up and finish all the product....

So stupidly i didn't test out the product before buying, i just a assumed as it said light, light is what it should be. Wrong! I was met with a scary orange colour soo not my match but on first application after blending and buffing as much as possible i was impressed by the results it seemed to just blur out my imperfections ever so slightly to give a half way to perfect flawless look. The shade then suited my skin leaving a glowing finish (not the orange kind though). After continuous wear for the past 3 weeks i haven't seen no major improvement in my skin as such but saying that my skin has never been in great condition (it's something i'm still working on slowly, i just keep getting it wrong.) I don't think it really helps control oil for any longer than 1-2 hours as i'm constantly powdering as well as blotting throughout the day with or without this applied (that's what you get with super oily skin) so as i will still continue to use this once my bout of bad skin has improved (it clings to dry patches like i don't know what, defiantly not a good look!) Great product though with all the SPF goodness too i recommend for it's reasonably priced price

An oh so worth it free gift? I guess so it was free after all.

(L-R) Eyeshadow in statuesque, lipgloss in in the nude, cream blush bronzed

Passion For Fashion Competition

Wednesday 29 August 2012

So there's an amazingly generous competition being held by moneysupermarket called Passion For Fashion in which you have to create 5 outfits fitted to different themes (casual, work, party, outdoor and office wear) all for £200 or under it may sound easy but be sure to check the link for the rules and the additional info!
Onto my Entry.....
Casual
Outfit #2 Casual
Casual for me is a simple pair of jeans slightly dressed but has to be totally comfortable, comfort it always on top of my list and with this outfit i feel i have created this. With the Aztec jumper it adds a little bit of something something to an otherwise bland look, the collar also gives it some edge along with the stacked bracelets and the ankle boots too. Last of all the bag would be practical for everyday use as well as looking girly and cute.

Collar -Topshop- £15.00

 Boots -NewLook- £27.99
Jeans -Topshop- £38.00
Bag -RiverIsland- £35.00
Bracelet -Topshop- £20.00
Braclet -Topshop- £14.00
Jumper -NewLook- £37.99
Total: £187.98

Party
PassionForFashion Party Outfit #1
Again i like simple so it's not over the top or too dressy just enough for a classy party.
A favourite of mine is the blue dress as i feel blue compliments fair skin like my own, what's even better is it has a dipped hem but not only that (it has chiffion'y sides which would help to disguise wide hips bouns!) Moving on from the dress the accessories are kept to a minimum because i'm just not an over user of them but the shoes have studding detail on which tie in well together with the orange and gold accents making it an easy to outfit to wear.

Dress -RiverIsland£30.00
Shoe -Newlook£29.99
Watch -ASOS/RiverIsland£20.00
Clutch -Newlook£9.99
Earrings -ASOS£15.00
Total:  £104.98

Outdoor
Outfit #3
I'm not much of an outdoors'y kinda person (although i go outside everyday ha) but with nature, not such much so taking 'outdoor' i made it into an outfit i think relates sightly with the earthy tones, layering and warmth. Overall i love this outfit, with the all-in-one (probably not ideal in an emergency!) to the jumper which i would wear oversized, to the union jack wellies to the amazing faux leather sleeve jacket! Also i had to add the river island bag as i'm a fan of that style of bag and the fact i had no 'budget left' for a backpack ha.

All in One -Topshop£25.00
Jumper -NewLook£12.99
Dem Hem Top -RiverIsland£25.00
Sleeve Jacket -NewLook£44.99
Bobble Hat -Topshop£14.00
Wellies -Republic£25.00
Knee Socks -Topshop£6.00
Bag -RiverIsland£35.00
Ring Trio -Topshop£10.00
Total: £197.98

OFFICE

Work Outfit #4
So i found this look the most challangeing as i have no idea what would be appropriate in an office/smart job. So staying away from the white blouse black pant combo i decided to go with black and black ha. Leggings to me are for more casual/comfy attire but saying that these are slightly more smart like with wet look side panels and paired with right things they look fit for purpose. Onto the top it's simple but works (after putting this look together i now realise it's quite sheer so i'd defiantly wear something under it). With this look the blazer gives it the oomph it needs, a bright in your face colour which ties in well with the shoes, earrings, rings and that expensive looking bag. Oh the nails give it that extra bit of colour too!

Leggings -Topshop£20.00
Blazer -H&M£29.99
Shoes -Newlook£15.99
Models Own -ASOS£5.00
Earrings -Topshop£6.50
Bag -H&M£29.99
Blouse -Republic£25.00
Total: £132.47

First Date
Outfit #5

The last look, one of my favourite's especially for a first date i think this outfit is acceptable not to much but it shows you've made effort (always a good thing i guess ha). I love love love this cardigan it's great for the autumn and even winter months if you layer quite a lot, but i think it makes this outfit more relaxed rather than having a fitted jacket. The dress again is blue, a colour i like for my skin tone i accessorized it with a contrasting belt which breaks it up from the neutral side of colours from the cardigan and those shoes. I was in two minds wheather to choose flats or wedges but as long as you keep your balance you shouldn't fall over and make a fool of yourself (finger crossed ha!) Onto the most expensive item in this outfit the bag expensive but so worth it as i feel it just brings everything together.

Bag -Debenhams£65.00
Belt -Topshop£12.00
Necklace -ASOS£12.00
Wedges -Boohoo.com£35.00
Cardigan -NewLook£19.99
Bird Dress -NewLook£14.99
Total: £158.98

Hope you like my oufits!

What do you prefer comfy/causal or dressy/smart?

Bank Holiday Wishlist #1

So just like everyone else i'm a big dreamer and well i like nice things but nice things don't get along well with my bank balance. So i decided to make my first ever wishlist and share with you what i really really want this is a reduced version of a very long list enjoy!

1. D&G High Contact Watch - Although they have been around for a year or so it's something i long for because i prefer digital watches to analogue ones so it's perfect, but i would prefer one in either black or orange.

2. Real Techniques Stippling Brush - The oh so famous brush brand at the moment, i desperately  want one of these brushes and have come within touching distant many times (too many times)
but i'm holding off as i would like to try the ELF Brush first at a slightly cheaper price.
Have you used the ELF Stipple Brush? Is it any good?

3. Braun Wet and Dry Epilator - i wasn't sure whether to include this, but it's a wishlist after all and stupidly i wish i had an epilator! But for the top of the range one i want spending that kind of money is just never going to happen so a cheaper option needs to be found.

4. Clinique Superbalanced Foundation - Another thing i long for but again the price! I'm just not willing to spend that kind of money on something that may not work.

5. Purple Oxford Converse - To be totally honest i don't even know why i want these but i do and i'm always on the look out to get some in my local TK Maxx for a little cheaper but with my bad luck nothing :( i'm still holding out though because you never know.

6. Origins Super Spot Remover - So tempting again like the foundation but i don't want to spend my money on something that may not work because i waste so much on crap (are you the same)?

7. Clinique 3 Step System - Right now i am having such a love HATE relationship with my skin it just makes me want to screammmmmm with all the oiliness, dryness and SPOTS it's just something that  puts me in a bad mood and makes me want to hide in bed all day so i defiantly think its time to invest in some skin loving products!

Have you tried Clinique's 3 Step System for oily skin? It is any good?

What are your longed for wish list items?

House Of Fraser Style Challenge

Wednesday 15 August 2012

House Of Fraser Style Challenge

This is my competition entry House of Fraser Blog are holding for an amazingly generous prize, details here!

So onto the outfit there were too many things i wanted to combine together which resulted in a 'miss match not to be seen in' kind of  look, but i got through that (i hope!) and above is my finished result.

What is this outfit for?... i think it would be perfect for a weekend away!
One of my favourite pieces has got to be the peplum jumper because it disguises lumps, bumps and  those wide hips , also it's so versatile making it easy to wear with so many things for casual or a more dressed up look like i've created above. Another favourite is the studded shoes as i feel they give it some sort of edge which i like alot. Last but not least the printed trousers are amazing you can never go wrong with printed clothing items and to me they just look autumn'y. My outfit's colourful and a definite head turner but what do you think?

 Hope you like!

Moisturise Your Face II My Thoughts/ Mini Reviews

Tuesday 14 August 2012

So as a person of the oh so wonderful oily/combination skin type (NOT!) i am always trying to find the perfect moisturiser for my skin. Although i haven't found my holy grail product just yet i'm half way there.....

What i want out of a moisturiser is well not that much but as my expectations are way too high it's hard too find something i love not just like. All i ask for is: something that actually gives long lasting moisture to dry skin + gives a slight matte finish where can i find one?

So i've tried many creams over the past years and two out of the seven above are the half way to perfect moisturisers.....

Good Things Miracle Mattifier 100ml Lotion: This in my eyes is a love or hate product . It's a dislike, due too it's sickly scent so for me that wasn't a good start but all being well for the price of £7.99 it should do what it says? Sadly in my case it didn't i was still left with shiny skin, Mattifing you are not! So while i still use it i'm not a fan because it didn't do what it stated and the smell is just urghh, not something i want to smell in the morning but i'm not willing to waste money and just throw it in the bin so perseverance is key.
(It's on offer at boots with a 1/3 off the entire range if you want to try it yourself.)

Boots Shine Control Day Moisturiser: Surprisingly it moisturises but i've found it doesn't quite control my shine throughout the day but as it contains tea tree + witch hazel i use it as a 'night cream' to help fight my spots while sleeping definitely, worth a try for 2-3 pounds if they still sell it as this is the old packaging and i can't find it online.

Clean&Clear dual action Moisturiser: I really wanted to love this but after using it for a while my skin got a little too use to it which resulted in me having massive break outs which is what it's suppose to prevent. While it worked i felt i benefited from the moisturiser but my look ran out unfortunately :(.
(There's a deal on at boots 2 for £5 pound!)

Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturiser: I'm a fan of Neutrogena skincare so when this was on offer i thought i'd give it ago. I'm so glad i did, for me this isn't something i can use everyday due to the slight thick constancy of the cream as i feel it clogs up my skin but with it's long lasting moisture and spot fighting properties with a claim of evening out your skin tone mixed in too (not really noticed that) for £4.60 at full price you can't go wrong. P.S although it's oil-free, not so mattifing (but it doesn't claim to be).

Nivea Visage Daily Essentials For Oily & Combination Skin: This is quite heavily scented with a smell that's tolerable of lemongrass this is the only downside for me i find it way too perfumed. Moistursing wise it's lasting but doesn't really do much for me where my shines concerned for the price i payed from bodycare it's worth it i guess.

Simple Oil Balancing Moisturiser: This works wonders and is one of my all time favourites believe it or not it does what it stats on the bottle, by controlling  my shine for up to 3 hours and moisturising long throughout the day i can't love it any more it's a must have for oily skin types and so worth £4.27 (its on offer at superdrug for £3 at the moment!)

Botanics Mattifing Gel Cream Shine Away: I love love love this stuff after wanting to buy the Clinique  Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel this is my cheap alternative although ive never tried it (one day i will ha) i can't compare but again it does what it says on the box with a lovely citrus scent it makes a great moisturiser for £4.99( it's on offer for £3.33 at boots!) I do have a downside though the packaging isn't so great but how does that saying go 'don't judge a book by it's cover or in this case until you've tried it!

What's your Holy Grail Moisturiser?
Have you tried the Clinique Dramatically Different Gel Moisturiser?

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain || My Thoughts

Thursday 9 August 2012

The Revlon Balm Stains are everywhere right now so i thought I'd add to the hype and show you the one i have. If you didn't know already they're a crayon like looking product, which are very mositurising whilst giving you a pop of colour and well kissable lips i guess. This is something i want out of a lip product (the moisturising benefits, not so much the kissable look ha) as products i use are either too greasy or too drying so with these i feel there is a perfect balance between the two.

Onto the Balm, i have the one in Cherish it's not a shade i was draw to initially that was Honey, (it was sold out unfortunately just my luck!) But once i looked at Cherish there was just something about it, it's a very out there in your face barbie pinky colour definitely out of my comfort zone with my pale skin, although i have found a little goes a long way and surprisingly it is a really wearable colour.
As for everyday use I'm the kinda girl who plays it safe and always go for neutral colours but nevertheless it does get worn. The product is long lasting colour-wise but just like any balmy type product it wears off within 1-2 hours leaving a muted pink stain on the lips.

Overall it's great for the £7.99 price tag and I will most likely be purchasing the Honey colour.
What's even better there still on offer at boots and superdrug for £5.99!

Have you tried the balm stains?
What's your play it safe lip colour?

:) x
